n 2013, I applied for the role of Windows Games Ambassador in Microsoft. For this position, twenty students were selected and I was one of them after successfully going through the online tests and other selective measures used. The role involved helping students and developers to publish their games and applications on the Windows store. It also involved representing Microsoft in various universities to help students familiarise themselves with the process of publishing on the Windows store. As a Windows Games Ambassador I had to do a lot of presentations, which I initially found very difficult. I started presenting in front of my colleagues in university, as I knew these were familiar faces and hoped it would make the process easier but I was quick to realise that I was always nervous doing this. After seeking advice from my manager, I started practising by myself in front of mirrors and after a while, I began presenting before my colleagues again. This was a lot better than when I initially started as I was more comfortable and my speech was clearer.
The role of the Windows Games Ambassador is majorly a support role. I had to aid whoever needed assistance with the publishing process on the Windows store. In playing the role of an ambassador, I had to travel across the country a lot to represent Windows; I travelled to several events across the country to help developers and students with whatever issues they had either with the programming of their games or with publishing.
My 1st presentation in front of students as a Windows Games Ambassador
Working with one of the biggest IT companies in the world (Microsoft) was a really great opportunity and challenging experience. It exposed me to the professional aspect of IT and Computer Games Programming; it also paved the way for me to work with other professionals in the field. I have become better in the support role and also in presentations. In attending the several events that I was a part of, I made contacts with several people that I also learnt from and gained some very relevant experiences from. Just like my experiences in BCU, being a Microsoft Windows Games Ambassador also had positive effects in other aspects of my life besides the professional experiences I gained. My communication and rapport skills have tremendously improved as opposed to the years before I took up the role and initially started.
